FLOSSING

Floss daily! Although flossing takes more time and patience when you are wearing braces, it is important to floss every day; at least once per day, just before bedtime. Use a floss threader as needed. To prevent cavity formation, be sure to floss between your teeth and below the gum line.

BRUSHING

Use a toothbrush with soft bristles. Brush your teeth following each meal and at bedtime to avoid the accumulation of food particles on your teeth and braces. Even after eating a small snack, stain and discoloration can occur if food particles accumulate on your teeth. Carry a travel brush with you to brush after lunch. Take special care of your braces, teeth and gums by thoroughly cleaning and carefully examining the areas for the presence of plaque and food. Hold the toothbrush at an angle and brush slowly and carefully, covering all areas between your gums, the braces as well as the surface of each tooth. It will take you several minutes to thoroughly brush your teeth. If you are unable to brush, rinse your mouth vigorously with water to loosen food!

WATERPIK

We suggest you utilize a Waterpik to break up food and plaque prior to brushing and flossing your teeth. Use the device on the lower water pressure settings to avoid severely irritating the gum tissue. Remember the Waterpik is not a substitute for thorough brushing.
