The Seventh Step
Retainers are issued when the braces are removed. Retainers are prescribed for the retention phase. Wearing retainers is essential in keeping your teeth straight and in the same position as when the braces were removed. Following prescribed retainer wear also reduces any chance of changes to the bite after orthodontic treatment. Current research suggests that retainer use needs to be indefinite.
